Connection- Modern women

"A certain superciliousness of look, coolness of manner, nonchalance of tone, express fully their sentiments on the point, without committing them by any positive rudeness in word or deed"(232).

When Jane encounters the sisters that she grew up with, they treated her coolly. She describes what happened between the women as "A certain superciliousness of look, coolness of manner, nonchalance of tone, express fully their sentiments on the point, without committing them by any positive rudeness in word or deed". Jane knew that she was being looked down upon by Georgianna and Eliza. In today's society, there is an unspoken attitude among women that allows their judgement to be felt without them actually saying what is on their mind. People in today and Jane's time effectively cast judgement without necessarily saying what is being felt.

  1. I loved this quote while reading it in the book. It's sort of like "Girls are evil and the are always judging" and in a way, it is true. This connection really shows how women, and men as well, do not change as a whole over time. I think, though, I would have emphasized the fact that women judge, rather than the fact that judgement can be felt.
